Field Marshal Jan Christiaan Smuts 1870 –1950

Prime Minister, international statesman and philosopher, Smuts

was born to a Dutch farming family in the Cape Colony. During his career as a lawyer he encountered Rhodes. This encounter with British Imperialism led him to ally himself to the Transvaal Republic.

He fought in the Anglo Boer War against the British but later realised that more progress and a greater role in international matters could be achieved if South Africa was part of the British Empire.

His association with Britain led to his involvement in the creation of the Royal Air Force, the establishment of the League of Nations and the United Nations.

He pioneered the concept of Holism, which Einstein believed would rank beside his own theory of Relativism in directing human thinking into the future.
